Living with chronic pain and thinking surgery is your only option? Read this.
Meet one of my incredible clients. At 47, she had been living with the reality of Adult Hip Dysplasia for eight years. She had been discharged from traditional physiotherapy, relied on a walking stick daily, and felt like she was running out of options to avoid major surgery.
That’s when we started working together. Here is how combining Pilates and Targeted Physiotherapy completely transformed her life:
🔹 Phase 1: Building the Foundation (Pilates)
We started with weekly Pilates sessions focused on joint mobility and core stability. Within months, her stiffness dramatically decreased, her standing tolerance improved so she could finally enjoy concerts again, and managing stairs became easier. Best of all? Surgery was no longer an option in the near future.
🔹 Phase 2: Clearing the Roadblocks (Acute Physio)
When a nagging shoulder tendonitis flared up, we paused to address it. Because we had built a strong foundation of trust, we successfully resolved her shoulder pain in just one targeted physio session with a custom home exercise plan.
🔹 Phase 3: The Breakthrough (Advanced Hip Physio)
In April, she decided she was ready to tackle her hip limitations head-on. At our first assessment, she was at an 8/10 pain level, was heavily reliant on painkillers, had severe movement restrictions, and couldn't even cross her legs.
We launched a dedicated, tailored physiotherapy program combining targeted strength training and hands-on manual therapy. The results by session 5 speak for themselves:
Pain dropped from an 8/10 to a manageable 6/10 and continues to improve.
Massive mobility gains: Left hip rotation increased by 30 degrees!
Full strength restored in her hip flexors and rotators.
The ultimate milestone: She recently slept through the night and walked 7 MILES in a single day—with minimal discomfort.
In fact, she just told me she no longer even feels the need to keep her walking stick in the car "just in case."
🚀 What’s your "7-mile walk"?
Whether you are trying to avoid surgery, manage a congenital condition, or simply want to live without a constant reliance on painkillers, your body is capable of incredible healing when given the right guidance.
As both a Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor, I don't just treat symptoms—I look at the whole picture to help you reclaim your movement, your confidence, and your life.
