10 weeks of SAC the improvements have been astounding

I just want to take a moment to recognise the achievements of my lovely “SAC”-ers. The Staying Active Circuits group has been running for 10 weeks now in Birchington and Acol (further locations to be added following the success - let me know your area, if you're interested). There are 6 sessions designed for full body strengthening, mobility, balance, flexibility (all within YOUR limits), all exercises can be completed sitting or standing.

The improvements made by all have been remarkable. (I have been given permission to provide names, if column is blank, it may be that only a baseline has been recorded - not everyone has completed all sessions & we have 2 classes that are, so far, unrepeated). These exercises are completed for 2 or 3 minutes at a time and measured (where able).

Some of the feedback comments I have had include: “you're very encouraging, an inspiration to all”, “I no longer feel scared” (walking without a stick on slaloms, challenging her balance), “I look forward to the class each week, I never thought I would”. When I've been away, attendees have met for coffee. We have a laugh, listen to music (we've gone as far back as the 40's, so far, to honour our oldest client, Hilary, in her 90's!). I only ever compare to a prior version of you. I don't care who the best is. I care even less who the worst is - you're trying & that's always better than anyone who isn't.

I think a special mention should go to Sue, who by far, has made the biggest improvements. Initially feeling scared when mobilising, using a walking stick, having a limp. Being put off a previous exercise class because she was told to get rid of the stick without guidance. Being told she couldn't kneel after a total knee replacement (a common error by consultants, unfortunately) and wouldn't dream of attempting to get on the floor. After 10 weeks of commitment, a simple heel raise sorted the limp. She now mobiles confidently without a stick, even when challenging her balance and will complete kneeling exercises, getting up sometimes without support. Sue always gives it her all, using higher resistance therabands for arm exercises and even asked for a progression this week as she couldn't feel her abs (abdominal muscles) working! A HUGE well done Sue. That's the difference a physio led class makes; I get to know you personally, push you within your capability and offer advice and guidance to help you progress. The improvements made by all have been incredible! This is one proud physio 🥰 WELL DONE ALL 👏👏👏.

They all made the decision to SAC off stiffness, weakness, aches and pains, painkillers, YOU could too! Come join us. ALWAYS led by a physiotherapist to provide advice and guidance on exercising safely.
